Safety Automation – PILZ
Part of our machine and automation safety solutions, our safety automation products include PILZ safety sensors, relays, configurable small controllers, safety PLCs and networks, operating and monitoring products.

PILZ SAFETY RELAYS
PILZ safety relays minimise risk to people and machines. To reliably monitor functional safety, electrical safety or safe line inspection, PILZ safety relays offer:
- Optimum cost/performance ratio
- High availability of products
- Certified safety

PILZ CONFIGURABLE SMALL CONTROLLERS
Save time and costs in all engineering phases with PILZ configurable small controllers:
- Worldwide safety standard for various automation environments and communication systems – cost-effective and long-lasting
- Simple wiring means short commissioning times
- Easy modifications in the configuration thanks to pre-configured, certified software blocks
- Simple, comprehensive diagnostics mean minimal machine downtimes and high plant availability
- Only one system from planning to maintenance – expansions or modified functions possible at any time
- Maximum safety – depending on the wiring, safety categories up to PL e of EN ISO 13849-1 and SIL CL 3 of EN IEC 62061
- Potential for rationalisation because safety components cover automation tasks

SAFETY PLCS
Cost-effective, reliable, safe and one-source solutions for your automation task, PILZ controllers allow you to implement safety and automation applications of any size, easily and flexibly – for machines with an elementary function range, machines with multiple axes, interlinked plant and machinery.
- Programmable and configurable for safety and automation
- Simple software solutions for intuitive programming of your application
- Solutions for decentralised applications directly in the field
- Can be used as a remote I/O system, as a stand-alone controller or as part of a networked system
- Ready-to-install systems with fully compatible solutions
- Compliant with relevant standards

OPERATING & MONITORING
We supply PILZ sensor, control and drive technology products that provide:
- Safety for your workforce and machines due to short reaction times
- Diagnostics and visualisation of your processes – keeps you informed at any time
- Higher productivity due to shorter plant downtimes
- Robust devices for applications in the industrial environment
- Efficient project planning due to coordinated and pre-configured solutions
NETWORKS
To make your network both clear and powerful, we supply PILZ’ optimally adapted system components for:
- Safe fieldbus systems
- Ethernet systems
- Device diagnostics systems
PILZ ESTOP
PILZ ESTOP is a safety device used in industries to quickly stop machinery in emergencies, preventing accidents. It’s a large button pressed to halt operations instantly, ensuring the safety of workers and equipment.
Please note: the standards in the video are European. The Australian product also meets AS.
Safety Automation FAQS
-
How are shorts detected across the contacts?
Shorts are detected across the contacts on the safety relays PNOZsigma operates with: 24 V in the first circuit (S11-S12) and with 0 V in the second circuit 0 V (S21-S22).
-
Which expansion modules must be used for the safety relays PNOZsigma if 10 safety contacts are insufficient?
With a base unit and a contact expansion module PNOZ s7.1, the number of safety contacts can be expanded almost without limit. Up to 10 contact expansion modules PNOZ s7.2 can be connected to a PNOZ s7.1. If you need more contacts, an additional PNOZ s7.1, with up to 10 PNOZ s7.2 can be added to the series. No need for wiring, it can be implemented in a single action via connectors.
PNOZ s7.1 has 3 safety contacts, while the PNOZ s7.2 has 4 safety contacts plus one auxiliary contact. They can be combined with other PNOZsigma expansion units at any time. PNOZ s7.2 also guarantees that the supply voltage is “refreshed”.
-
Why do you need 3 passwords on the PNOZmulti Configurator?
Password protection over 3 levels allows graduated access:
- Level 1: The password allows you to modify and save.
- Level 2: The password allows you to view the program, but not modify it.
- Level 3: The password allows changes to certain blocks, which may still be adapted during commissioning for example.
-
How does feedback loop monitoring work on the small controllers PNOZmulti?
When the output is activated, the feedback loop must already be present with a “high” signal. After the output is switched on the feedback loop must drop out within 3 s.
-
Which protocols are supported by the Ethernet interfaces on the small controllers PNOZmulti 2?
The base units PNOZ m B1 and PNOZ m B1 Burner of the configurable small controller PNOZmulti 2 have Modbus TCP and TCP/IP on-board.
